Cliche as it may sound, but in it lays the foundation of the new Central Visayas Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (CVAARRDEC).
Looking back, the Central Visayas Region (Region VII) already established a Consortium for Agriculture and Aquatic Resources in the past. However, it gradually became dormant through time. Now, having learned from the past shortcomings along with an earnest desire to reach a common goal despite varied differences. The Department of Science and Technology Region VII (DOST 7) wanted to start anew and lead the establishment of a stronger and more unified consortium for agriculture in the region.
The new consortium which shall be known as the Central Visayas Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium with the acronym CVAARRDEC refers to the association among government and non-government institutions in Central Visayas created with a common interest and purpose exclusively for the promotion of science and technology applications in the region for agriculture, aquatic, forestry and natural resources sector through: 1) Strategic Research and Development (R&D); 2) Capability Building and Governance; 3) R&D Results Utilization; and 4) Policy Analysis and Advocacy.
The DOST 7 in collaboration with DOST-PCAARRD (Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development) and the heads and representatives of certain institutions from the four provinces under Region VII namely: The Bohol Island State University (BISU); Action for Skills Knowledge Education and Wellness Center (ASKEDWELL Center); Negros Oriental State University (NOrSU); Holy Name University (HNU); Cebu Technological University (CTU); Siquijor State College (SSC); University of San Carlos (USC); Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources VII (BFAR 7); Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 7 (DA 7); and Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) at Ubay Stock Farm — conducted the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement and Coordination Meeting to commence the formal establishment of the Central Visayas Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (CVAARRDEC) at the DOST 7 Conference Hall last October 26, 2017.
